Everyone in our house has been under the weather lately. Cough, chills, sore throats. No fun at all! My mom suggested to mix up some turmeric and milk. I asked, “You mean make golden lattes?” She laughed, and said “Whatever you young people call it!” If I’m doing this just for myself I put all of the ingredients in a blender (Magic Bullet, Ninja, etc.) microwave for 1-2 minutes, and blend to get that nice froth. Otherwise you can warm everything on the stove top and whisk for a similar effect.
Ingredients
- 2 cups milk (unsweetened dairy or non-dairy)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric, ground or freshly grated
- 1/4 tsp grated ginger
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp honey or other natural sweetener
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- Pinch of ground black pepper
I also like to throw in some cardamom seeds…delicious!
Adding ground black pepper helps turmeric stay in your body longer.
In a time crunch you can mix together turmeric, cinnamon, pepper with a tiny bit of lemon and warm water for “turmeric shots” This is how my coworkers and I like to start our weekday mornings!
